Near-death experiences were brought into the mainstream starting in 1978, when the International Association for Near Studies (IANDS) was founded in Connecticut. The organization was originally known as the Association for the Scientific Study of Near-Death Phenomena. This group was founded by researchers: Dr. John Audette, Dr. Bruce Greyson, Dr. Kenneth Ring and Dr. Michael Sabom.  The first president of this association was Dr. John Audette, who later served as executive director.  Offices were administered by Nancy Evans Bush.

IANDS is the first organization in the world devoted exclusively to the study of near-death experiences (NDEs) and spiritually transforming experiences. Since then, it has become the premier NDE resource for research, education and support.

Today our NDE support group is an integral part of IANDS.
